About

Hi there! My name is Ben but you’d probably know me better as Shy Guy.
We’re glad to see you found our shiny new website – we hope you like it.

WAIT! you say. Why do you say WE if you’re only one person?

Well, “I” is an ugly word. Don’t just take my word for it.
I asked Shy Guy himself and he totally agrees with me. Err US I mean. OK. WE mean. You get the idea.

So how did Shy Guy Gaming come about you ask?
Great question! I [Ben] have been a PC Technician since the mid 1990’s. I started my own Information Technology business in Lismore NSW way back in 2002.
I ran that business for 10 years – building, upgrading and repairing computer systems for home users and businesses.
That part i really enjoyed. What i didn’t enjoy was the endless beeping of printers and fax machines, setting up networks, rolling out software updates, all the boring stuff.

It wasn’t long before I found myself disillusioned with the IT Industry.
I took some time away from IT to study at university – Psychology of all things – but tech repair was still in my veins.

Over the years my love for gaming consoles has never wavered, but a few years ago I discovered that my PlayStation 3’s love for me wasn’t nearly as unwavering.
It loved to overheat, turn off just before the finish line in Gran Turismo, refuse to read discs and then finally… the power supply died.
I had an idea… Surely with my extensive knowledge of PC repairs I could fix all the issues with my console… right?

Well, long story short and after much research [and swearing] It was fixed!
Then I felt a yearning to play some PS2 games, so I tracked down a PS2, refurbished it and it worked wonderfully.
I then wondered what life was really like in the world of Xbox. So I bought an Xbox 360 and guess what?
I had to practically rebuild it with new parts before I could find out!
I had been bitten by the console repair bug and my love for tech repair reignited.

So where does Shy Guy come in to the story?
Soon, I promise. Be patient – Sheesh.
The problem was that as much as Ben was enjoying fixing game consoles, he didn’t want to go back to the world of IT and find himself doing the same boring work again.
He enjoyed the repair side of the business, that was his happy place.

He wanted to help out other console gamers, because he didn’t know of anyone repairing game consoles in the Northern Rivers, and he decided one morning that he would really enjoy a new career in game console repair.
No more boring stuff.

So Ben decided he would open a brand spanking new business focusing exclusively on game console repair. Ben was [and still is] a bit of a shy guy.
He also needed a new attitude and a way to draw the line between his past life in IT and his exciting new career as a game console repair technician.

So… Ben took on a new identity.
He zipped up his hooded jumper, threw on some sunglasses [for some strange reason – it wasn’t even sunny that day] and with a wry, crooked grin assumed an alter-ego. Me. Shy Guy.
Yes, its Shy Guy talking now, and the last three paragraphs… Go back and reread them if you want – I’ll wait………
Good now? Great!, but try to keep up please.

Ben needed a new attitude towards running a business, not having his business running him.
That’s where I [Shy Guy] appeared with my take-on-the world, kick-some-arse attitude and a new mission to fix the game console issues even their own manufacturers can’t or wont fix.
To stand up to the large electronics retailers who show little care towards a gamer whose console or accessory has fought its last boss battle less than a month after its warranty has expired.
I stand for right to repair and repair done right!

So what is my role in our little business?
I take care of the website, marketing & advertising [or lack thereof at the best of times] and my most important role, the public face of Shy Guy Gaming.
That’s my cheeky little grin in our logo after all.

But my most important role is to supply Ben with endless cups of coffee and crack the whip behind him as he hunches over his workbench, littered with spare parts and staring endlessly into his microscope. Whiling away the hours with his soldering iron, hot air station and the worlds thinnest pair of tweezers.

I leave the repair work up to him, not my cup of tea and far below my pay grade to be honest.
I amuse myself by answering phone calls and replying to text messages while Ben is hard at work.
My favourite thing to do is answer calls pretending to be Ben and not Shy Guy.
I’m never what people expect as I sound far too confident to be called a Shy Guy.

Blame Ben for that one, I’m just a figment of his imagination after all, or maybe a split personality, or maybe I’m real and he just lives in my head rent free – neither of us really know for sure anymore.
It further confuses people when I say “WE can do that” or “WE are booked up for two weeks at the moment”.
People turn up to the workshop expecting to see TWO people and leave the premises bewildered. However this is my job and along with a higher pay rate than Ben, I take my job very seriously.

So, from BOTH of US at Shy Guy Gaming, we cant wait to help you out next time your beloved video game console or handheld console needs some TLC.
Don’t hesitate to reach out to US by phone, text message, email, Facebook, Instgram, X or Google.

Thank You & Happy Gaming!!
